Message on Frigid Winter Night Saves Elderly Man's Life

Challenge: Last winter, with temperatures dropping in the single digits, 130+ households needed to be notified that an elderly resident with Alzheimer's had wandered away from his home.

Solution: The neighborhood association had already set up CallingPost to notify residents of pool schedules and activities. Thanks to CallingPost, members were alerted immediately of the elderly man's disappearance.

Benefit: While fire and police departments were on the scene, they hadn't found the missing resident. With the freezing temperatures, it was crucial to find him quickly.

A neighbor who had received the CallingPost message heard a rustling in the bushes adjacent to her home. She stepped out onto the porch and called out to what she thought might be the missing neighbor.

The elderly man stepped out, smiled and waved! The missing neighbor had been found quickly--and quite possibly a life had been saved!--thanks to CallingPost.

"As secretary of our neighborhood coalition and with the help of CallingPost, I was able to contact over 400 residents on several occasions requesting that we bond together in order to address elected officials and leaders regarding air quality issues at a landfill that was in violation of EPD regulations.

"With the help of Calling Post, within a two year period, we were able to keep everyone informed and were successful in the closing of one of the largest landfills in the state of Georgia."
